there were these customers today. three mainlanders - this middle aged woman and her parents. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TASTE. one look at their clothes/accessories and i felt sorry for their lack of fashion sense .. sighs
the middle aged woman paid out everything her mother chose. being the only person among the group who could remotely communicate in english, she told me her mother "doesn't know what looks good". ..keep silent, smile, nod
i did not let on that i can understand chinese, knowing mainland chinese and their penchant for determined bargaining..
after their purchase of a japanese silk necklace, i explained to the daughter that the necklace is delicate, and needed to be hung up when not worn.. she translated this back to her mother as .. "they're not giving us a box for it because BAKU is a Japanese brand and they value simplicity in their packaging............................................"
i pretended not to hear this.
when they left, the daughter went: "are you japanese?" .."no".. "are you chinese?".. "yeh i'm from hk.." "but you grew up in australia?" .. "yes"
she probably realised i knew what they were on about the whole time XD
i don't know who's more immoral.. me for my pretentious oOh-i-can't-speak-chinese-facade? or her for lying outright to her trusting yet clueless parents
